Polystorm R PSM1A 190L Storm Soakaway Crate

Polystorm R PSM1A 190L Storm Soakaway Crate

Description

The Polypipe Polystorm R PSM1A is a heavy duty modular soakaway crate designed for surface water attenuation, retention and infiltration within SuDS compliant drainage systems. It is manufactured from over 90 percent recycled polypropylene and provides a 95 percent void ratio, allowing efficient water storage while reducing excavation volume.

This crate is suitable for both domestic and commercial projects where higher load performance or deeper burial is required. Typical uses include soakaways beneath driveways, car parks, access roads, service yards and landscaped areas, as well as attenuation tanks serving roofs and paved surfaces.

The Polystorm R unit provides a vertical compressive strength of up to 610 kN per square metre (61 tonnes per square metre), making it suitable for trafficked applications when installed with the correct cover depth and backfill. It can be buried to depths of up to 3.7 m depending on soil conditions and groundwater levels.

For infiltration systems, the crate should be fully wrapped in a permeable non woven geotextile membrane to prevent fines migration while allowing controlled discharge into the surrounding ground. For attenuation or retention systems, an impermeable geomembrane should be used, protected by a suitable non woven fleece.

The modular design allows crates to be stacked and clipped together to form tanks of almost any shape. Polystorm R can also be used as part of a hybrid system alongside Polystorm or Polystorm Xtra crates to optimise cost and load performance on larger schemes.

Limitations should be considered early. In weak clay soils or high groundwater conditions, maximum burial depths may be reduced and infiltration performance may be limited. Ground conditions should always be assessed before specifying the system.

Key Features

  • Suitable for trafficked and deeper burial soakaway systems
  • High void ratio for efficient water storage with reduced excavation
  • Strong enough for use beneath driveways and car parks
  • Modular design allows flexible tank layouts and hybrid builds
  • Manufactured from over 90 percent recycled polypropylene
  • Compatible with geotextile or geomembrane wrapped systems

Material Composition

Manufactured from controlled recycled polypropylene. This provides high structural strength, chemical resistance and long term durability in buried drainage applications.

About this collection

Soakaway Crates

Soakaway crates provide underground storage for surface water, allowing controlled infiltration into the surrounding ground and reducing runoff.

Is this crate suitable for use under driveways or car parks?

Yes. Polystorm R is suitable for trafficked applications when installed with the correct cover depth and backfill. Vehicle loads should be limited to light vehicles unless specifically designed otherwise.

Can it be used as a soakaway or an attenuation tank?

Yes. For soakaway use, wrap the system in a permeable non woven geotextile. For attenuation or retention, use an impermeable geomembrane with a protection fleece.

Do I need a geotextile membrane?

Yes for infiltration systems. The geotextile prevents soil fines entering the crate while allowing water to pass into the ground. For sealed systems, a geomembrane is required instead.

How many crates make one cubic metre of storage?

Five crates provide approximately 0.95 m³ of storage, allowing for configuration and connections.

Is this suitable for clay ground?

It depends. Clay soils may restrict infiltration and reduce allowable burial depth. In these conditions, attenuation with controlled discharge is often more appropriate than soakaway use.
