TCS Tensar SS Series Biaxial Geogrid Reinforcement Mesh

TCS Tensar SS Series Biaxial Geogrid Reinforcement Mesh

Description

TCS Tensar SS Series is a biaxial polypropylene geogrid designed for long term soil reinforcement and aggregate stabilisation. It is a permeable, monolithic grid with integral junctions, providing equal tensile strength in both longitudinal and transverse directions.

When installed within granular layers, the SS geogrid interlocks with aggregate particles to control lateral spread and distribute applied loads more evenly into the sub grade. This improves bearing capacity, reduces surface deformation and helps control settlement and rutting, particularly over weak or variable soils.

Tensar SS geogrids are widely used in road construction, car parks, working platforms, rail formations and foundations. They are also specified for heavy duty applications such as crane pads, piling platforms, airport pavements and infrastructure projects where consistent long term performance is required.

By improving load transfer, Tensar SS can reduce excavation depth and sub base thickness compared to unreinforced designs. This can lower material volumes, speed up installation and reduce overall build costs, especially on poor ground.

Installation is straightforward. The geogrid is laid directly onto a prepared sub grade, typically above a non woven geotextile membrane where separation is required. Overlaps are formed in accordance with ground conditions and the grid must be covered within 30 days to maintain design life.

The SS range is available in three strength grades to suit different loading and ground conditions.

Key Features

  • Biaxial reinforcement with balanced strength in both directions
  • Controls aggregate movement and improves bearing capacity
  • Reduces sub base thickness on weak soils
  • Stiff, monolithic grid with integral junctions
  • Resistant to chemical and biological attack in soil
  • Suitable for permanent civil engineering applications

Material Composition

Tensar SS geogrids are manufactured from extruded polypropylene with a minimum of 2% carbon black. This provides resistance to UV exposure during installation and long term durability when buried in soil.

About this collection

Reinforcement Mesh

Reinforcement mesh is used to strengthen ground and surfaces by distributing loads and limiting movement within concrete, screed or aggregate layers.

What is the difference between SS20, SS30 and SS40?

The grade refers to tensile strength. SS20 is used for lighter access and platforms, SS30 for general highways and car parks, and SS40 for higher load or weaker ground conditions.

Can Tensar SS be used in permanent structures?

Yes. It is commonly used beneath roads, railways and foundations where long term reinforcement is required.

Do I need a geotextile membrane with this grid?

In most builds, yes. A non woven geotextile beneath the grid provides separation and prevents fines migration into the aggregate.

How should the grid be overlapped?

Typical overlaps are 300–600 mm depending on sub grade strength and sub base stiffness. Follow project specification where available.

How long will Tensar SS last underground?

When installed and covered correctly, Tensar SS has a minimum working life of 50 years in normal soil conditions.
