Geotextile membranes are central to most groundworks. You use them to separate weak sub grades, stabilise a build up, improve drainage or protect liners. At GTM we stock one of the UK’s widest ranges across permeable and impermeable fabrics, backed by long term site experience. This guide highlights some of the membranes that suit common tasks on driveways, drains, patios, equestrian builds and root protection.
Permeable, impermeable, practical
Permeable membranes cover woven and non woven fabrics. You use them for drainage, filtration, separation and reinforcement depending on the grade. Impermeable geomembranes block water movement and protect structures such as attenuation tanks. These categories guide selection across most residential and commercial projects.
NW8 Non Woven
![]() |
NW8 100gsm is the go to non woven fleece for general separation and filtration. You see it on driveways, patios, French drains, trench lining, weed suppression and entry level horse arenas. It also works as a protection layer above impermeable liners. Its reliable tensile strength and consistent water flow make it a practical default for mixed soils or light traffic. |
EG80 Non Woven
![]() |
EG80 is an 80gsm fleece specified under EcoGrid. It creates a permeable separation layer between the sub base and grid, helping to limit fines movement and improve drainage. It suits domestic driveways, patios, footpaths and artificial turf. Lightweight, easy to install and cost effective. |
Hi Vis Geotextile
![]() |
Our orange Hi Vis woven geotextile is used where contaminated ground needs clear identification. It provides reinforcement and separation while acting as a visual warning to future contractors. This is common on brownfield projects or reclaimed land where pollution must be controlled. The membrane is UV protected in storage and should be installed soon after opening. |
Securagrid
![]() |
Securagrid is a biaxial geogrid for stabilising weak sub grades. Aggregate locks into the apertures and spreads load more effectively, which often reduces the required sub base thickness. It is used on access roads, car parks and temporary or permanent hard standings. Pairing it with a non woven fleece protects the grid and improves performance across mixed ground. |
Web Cell
![]() |
Web Cell is a flexible cellular confinement system for tree root protection and areas with limited excavation depth. It spreads load, reduces downward pressure on roots and stabilises weak soils. When combined with a non woven fleece such as NW8 or EG80, it creates a permeable structure suitable for driveways, footpaths and green spaces with ecological constraints. |
These are just a few of the membranes widely used across residential, commercial and environmental projects. You can view the complete range on our store to match the right grade to your ground conditions.
