Alarm 15 Orange Woven Geotextile Warning Layer 80gsm

Alarm 15 Orange Woven Geotextile Warning Layer 80gsm

Description

TCS Alarm 15 is a high visibility woven polypropylene geotextile specifically developed for use as a warning and marker layer above contaminated or hazardous ground. Its primary function is visual, clearly signalling the presence of buried hazards during future excavation or groundworks.

Installed between the hazard layer and clean cover material, Alarm 15 provides a continuous, unmissable indicator that alerts contractors before deeper excavation takes place. This approach is widely used on brownfield developments, land remediation projects and sites where contamination is contained rather than removed.

The woven construction offers basic separation and resistance to puncture, helping prevent intermixing between adjacent ground layers. While the membrane is permeable, it is not intended to provide filtration or drainage control and should not be used as a substitute for a non woven geotextile where soil fines need to be retained.

Alarm 15 is manufactured from woven polypropylene tapes containing a UV inhibitor. When installed and covered in accordance with good practice, it offers long term durability in typical soil conditions and temperatures. The material is resistant to naturally occurring soil acids, alkalis, bacteria and fungi.

Installation is straightforward. The membrane is laid flat over the hazard layer, with adjacent sheets overlapped to maintain continuity. It must be fully covered after installation and should remain buried at all times. Alarm 15 is designed for civil engineering and environmental applications rather than domestic landscaping or load bearing reinforcement.

Key Features

  • High visibility orange warning and marker layer
  • Designed for contaminated and hazardous ground
  • Clear visual alert during future excavations
  • Woven polypropylene construction
  • Resistant to biological and chemical degradation

What is Alarm 15 used for?

Alarm 15 is used as a warning and marker layer above contaminated or hazardous ground. Its purpose is to alert future contractors and excavators to buried risks before deeper excavation takes place.

Can Alarm 15 be used for filtration or drainage?

No. While it is permeable, Alarm 15 is not designed for filtration or drainage control. A non woven geotextile should be used where soil fines need to be retained.

Where should Alarm 15 be installed in the ground build up?

It should be installed directly above the hazard or contaminated layer and below the clean cover material, ensuring full coverage and visible continuity.

Woven or non woven geotextile, what’s the difference?

Woven geotextile membranes are designed primarily for stabilisation and reinforcement. They offer high tensile strength and help spread loads over weak ground. Non woven membranes focus on filtration and separation, allowing water to pass through while retaining fine particles. The correct choice depends on ground conditions and the role the membrane needs to perform.

Can a woven geotextile be used on its own?

It depends on the application and soil type. Woven membranes work well on firm or granular sub grades where stabilisation is the priority. On clay, silt or very fine soils, a non woven membrane may be required to provide filtration, either instead of or in addition to a woven fabric.
