Black GTM100 Woven Geotextile Membrane 100gsm

Black GTM100 Woven Geotextile Membrane 100gsm

Description

Black GTM100 is a woven polypropylene geotextile membrane developed for domestic landscaping and garden applications where light stabilisation and weed control are required. At 100gsm, it sits above entry level weed control fabrics while remaining easy to handle and install on smaller sites.

In the ground, GTM100 works by separating the underlying soil from decorative aggregates or gravel layers. This helps reduce mixing, limits surface settlement and improves the long term appearance of garden paths, borders and seating areas. The woven structure also blocks light effectively, helping to suppress weed growth when fully covered.

Unlike non woven membranes, GTM100 is not designed for fine filtration or drainage control. It allows water to pass through but should not be used where soil fines need to be retained, such as on clay heavy ground or in drainage applications. It is best suited to firm, free draining soils where stabilisation and weed suppression are the primary requirements.

Typical uses include garden paths, decorative gravel areas, patios, shed bases and general landscaping projects. The membrane must always be buried and covered with aggregate, paving or soil. It is not suitable for use under driveways, trafficked areas or heavy load bearing applications.

GTM100 is supplied in practical, prepacked roll sizes that are easy to transport and install, making it a good option for DIY users and light landscaping work.

Is GTM100 suitable for weed control in gardens?

Yes. GTM100 is effective for weed suppression when installed beneath gravel, bark or decorative stone. It must be fully covered to block light and protect the fabric.

Can GTM100 be used under driveways or heavy loads?

No. GTM100 is a light duty woven membrane designed for garden and landscaping projects only. For driveways, parking areas or trafficked ground, a heavier woven or non woven geotextile is required.

What types of projects is GTM100 best suited for?

It is best suited to garden paths, gravel areas, borders, patios, shed bases and general landscaping. It works well on firm, free draining soils where stabilisation and weed control are needed.

Woven or non woven geotextile, what’s the difference?

Woven geotextile membranes are designed primarily for stabilisation and reinforcement. They offer high tensile strength and help spread loads over weak ground. Non woven membranes focus on filtration and separation, allowing water to pass through while retaining fine particles. The correct choice depends on ground conditions and the role the membrane needs to perform.

Can a woven geotextile be used on its own?

It depends on the application and soil type. Woven membranes work well on firm or granular sub grades where stabilisation is the priority. On clay, silt or very fine soils, a non woven membrane may be required to provide filtration, either instead of or in addition to a woven fabric.
