Geotextile Double Sided Butyl Jointing Tape

Geotextile Double Sided Butyl Jointing Tape

Description

Geotextile Double Sided Butyl Jointing Tape is a specialist sealing tape used to create watertight joints between overlapping impermeable membranes. It is designed for use with damp proof membranes, gas barriers, geomembranes and plastic sheeting where water or gas containment is required.

The tape is commonly used in attenuation tanks, infiltration trenches, soakaway systems, radon and methane barrier installations and other containment applications. When compressed between membrane layers, the butyl compound flows slightly to fill surface irregularities, forming a continuous seal along the joint.

Unlike single sided cloth tapes used with permeable geotextiles, this product is intended specifically for impermeable systems. It improves installation quality by maintaining continuity across laps, penetrations and junctions, helping ensure the membrane performs as intended once buried.

Installation is straightforward. The tape is applied between overlapping membrane sheets with the release liner in place. Once aligned, the liner is removed and the membranes are pressed together to activate the seal. Mechanical fixing or weighting may still be required depending on membrane type and application.

Available in different widths and roll lengths, the tape can be selected based on overlap size, membrane thickness and site conditions. Wider tapes are typically used where higher tolerance, movement or sealing confidence is required.

What is this tape used for?

It is used to seal overlaps and joints in impermeable membranes to create a watertight connection between sheets.

Can this tape be used with permeable geotextile membranes?

No. It is designed for impermeable systems only. Permeable geotextiles should be joined using single sided cloth tape instead.

Does this tape create a waterproof seal?

Yes. When compressed between membrane layers, the butyl forms a watertight seal along the joint.

Is this suitable for gas membranes such as radon or methane barriers?

Yes. It is commonly used as part of gas membrane installations to assist sealing of overlaps, though it is not a barrier on its own.

Do I still need mechanical fixings?

In many applications, yes. The tape seals the joint but does not replace fixings or weighting where required by the system design.
