GP90 Woven Geotextile Separation Membrane

GP90 Woven Geotextile Separation Membrane

Description

TCS GP90 is a woven slit film polypropylene geotextile designed primarily for separation within ground construction. Its role is to prevent the intermixing of sub grade soils with aggregate layers, helping maintain sub base thickness, strength and long term performance.

When installed beneath driveways, paths, patios or hard standing areas, GP90 forms a stable separation layer that reduces rutting and aggregate loss into the soil below. This improves load distribution and helps preserve drainage characteristics within the build up. The woven structure allows water to pass through while limiting soil movement, making it suitable for free draining ground conditions.

GP90 is commonly used in domestic landscaping, equestrian surfaces, light access roads and general civil engineering applications where separation is required rather than fine filtration. It is not intended to act as a filtration membrane on clay or silty soils. In those conditions, a non woven geotextile is usually more appropriate.

Manufactured from inert polypropylene tapes, GP90 is resistant to naturally occurring soil acids, alkalis, bacteria and fungi. It offers reliable durability when buried in typical ground conditions. The membrane is easy to handle on site and can be cut cleanly using standard tools.

Installation involves laying the membrane directly onto prepared sub grade, overlapping joints by 300 to 500mm depending on ground conditions, and covering immediately with aggregate to prevent displacement.

Key Features

  • Standard grade woven geotextile for separation
  • Prevents soil and aggregate intermixing
  • Helps maintain sub base strength and drainage
  • Suitable for domestic and light civil works
  • Resistant to chemical and biological degradation
  • Available in multiple roll and cut sizes

Material Composition

GP90 is manufactured from woven slit film polypropylene. This construction provides good tensile strength and durability while remaining inert and stable in buried ground conditions.

What is GP90 mainly used for?

GP90 is used as a separation layer beneath sub bases to prevent soil fines migrating into aggregate. This helps maintain load bearing performance and long term ground stability.

Is GP90 suitable for driveways and patios?

Yes. It is commonly used beneath domestic driveways, paths and patios where separation is required on firm, free draining ground.

Is GP90 a weed control membrane?

No. While it may limit weed growth when buried, GP90 is designed for ground separation rather than weed suppression. It should not be used as an exposed weed membrane.

Woven or non woven geotextile, what’s the difference?

Woven geotextile membranes are designed primarily for stabilisation and reinforcement. They offer high tensile strength and help spread loads over weak ground. Non woven membranes focus on filtration and separation, allowing water to pass through while retaining fine particles. The correct choice depends on ground conditions and the role the membrane needs to perform.

Can a woven geotextile be used on its own?

It depends on the application and soil type. Woven membranes work well on firm or granular sub grades where stabilisation is the priority. On clay, silt or very fine soils, a non woven membrane may be required to provide filtration, either instead of or in addition to a woven fabric.
