Inbitex Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane

Inbitex Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane

Description

Inbitex is a specialist thermally bonded non woven geotextile membrane developed for use within permeable paving and sustainable drainage systems, including Formpave Aquaflow installations. Unlike standard separation membranes, Inbitex is designed to actively improve water quality as stormwater passes through the pavement build up.

In use, Inbitex performs conventional separation and filtration by preventing fine aggregate particles from migrating into lower layers, helping to maintain void space and long term drainage performance. In addition to this, the unique fibre structure promotes the growth of naturally occurring micro-organisms within the geotextile layer.

These micro-organisms form a biofilm that breaks down hydrocarbons and organic pollutants carried in surface water runoff. Research has shown that systems using Inbitex are capable of degrading significant quantities of oil per square metre each year, improving the quality of water entering the ground or attenuation system.

Inbitex can be used as either an upper or lower filtration layer depending on system design. As an upper layer, it provides initial filtration and prevents finer aggregates clogging lower layers. As a lower layer, it acts as a secondary filter, removing hydrocarbons and pollutants from downward percolating water before discharge or infiltration.

This membrane is typically specified in commercial car parks, permeable pavements, highways schemes and SuDS installations where water quality control is a design requirement. It is not intended as a general landscaping membrane and should only be used where pollution control is required.

Install Inbitex in accordance with the permeable paving system design. Overlaps should be sufficient to maintain continuity of filtration, and the membrane should remain wrapped until installation to limit UV exposure.

Key Features

  • Specialist geotextile for SuDS and permeable paving systems
  • Provides separation and filtration while supporting pollution control
  • Encourages microbial breakdown of hydrocarbons in runoff
  • Prevents fine aggregate migration and layer clogging
  • Suitable for use as upper or lower filtration layer
  • Designed for long term performance in drainage systems

Material Composition

Manufactured from a blend of polypropylene and polyethylene fibres using a thermally bonded non woven process. The fibre surface structure supports the formation of microbial biofilm for hydrocarbon degradation.

About this collection

Non Woven Geotextile Membranes

Non woven geotextile membranes are permeable fleece fabrics used for ground separation, filtration and drainage. They allow water to pass through while preventing soil fines migrating into aggregate layers.

What makes Inbitex different from standard non woven geotextiles?

Inbitex not only separates and filters but also supports microbial activity that breaks down hydrocarbons in runoff. Standard geotextiles do not provide this pollution control function.

Where is Inbitex typically specified?

It is commonly specified in permeable paving, car parks, highways schemes and SuDS installations where water quality treatment is required.

Can Inbitex be used as a normal separation membrane?

It can, but it is not intended for general landscaping or driveway use. Inbitex should be used where pollution control is part of the design requirement.

What does a non-woven geotextile actually do in the ground?

A non-woven geotextile separates soil from aggregate while still allowing water to drain. This prevents fine material from contaminating the sub-base, which is a common cause of settlement and drainage failure over time.

Is this membrane suitable for permanent underground use?

Yes. When installed correctly and covered promptly, TCS non-woven geotextiles are designed for long-term buried applications and will perform for the life of the structure.
