Multitrack NW8 White Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane 100gsm

Multitrack NW8 100gsm is a thermally bonded, non-woven polypropylene geotextile membrane designed to provide separation and filtration within the ground. It is a permeable fleece, meaning water passes through freely while fine particles such as clay, silt and sand are retained below.

In practical use, NW8 is laid between the sub-grade and aggregate layers to stop fines migrating upwards. Without a geotextile membrane, sub-bases gradually become contaminated, drainage performance reduces, and surfaces begin to rut or deform. NW8 maintains a clean interface between layers, helping the overall build-up perform as intended over time.

At 100gsm, this membrane is intended for light to medium duty applications where ground conditions are reasonable and loads are predictable. It is not designed for heavy traffic, commercial vehicle loading, or aggressive recycled aggregates. On weak sub-grades, deeper excavations, or higher loadings, a heavier non-woven membrane should be specified to improve puncture resistance and durability.

Multitrack NW8 is commonly used beneath domestic driveways to separate MOT Type 1 from clay sub-grade, in French drains and trench linings to reduce pipe silting, and wrapped around soakaway or attenuation tanks to preserve void space and water flow. It is also widely used in landscaping projects as a preventative weed layer beneath gravel, paths and hard standings, provided it is fully covered.

In equestrian construction, NW8 is typically used in entry level arenas, paddocks and turnout areas as a filtration layer beneath the stone base. It allows vertical drainage while preventing the underlying soil from pumping up into the aggregate. It should never be exposed at the riding surface and must always be installed as part of the correct layered build-up.

Installation is straightforward. The membrane is laid directly onto a trimmed sub-grade, with overlaps of 300 to 500mm depending on ground quality. The fabric should not be stretched, and aggregates should be placed carefully to reduce the risk of damage during installation. NW8 is compatible with porous paving and ground reinforcement systems when used as a separation layer beneath them.
