TCS TechCell Cellular Confinement Panels

TCS TechCell Cellular Confinement Panels

Description

TCS TechCell is a cellular confinement system manufactured from textured and perforated virgin HDPE strips welded into a three dimensional geocell structure. When expanded and infilled with suitable aggregate or soil, the system forms a stabilised mattress that significantly improves load distribution and ground performance.

The primary function of TechCell is confinement. By locking infill material within the cell walls, it prevents lateral movement of aggregate, increases stiffness and reduces differential settlement. This makes it suitable for use over weak or variable sub grades where unbound stone alone would deform under load.

TechCell is commonly used beneath highways, access roads, car parks, plant routes and construction platforms. It is also widely specified for slope stabilisation, basal reinforcement, tree root protection and earth retention where erosion or ground movement is a concern. The perforated cell walls allow water movement through the structure, supporting permeable build ups and reducing pore pressure.

Panels are supplied folded flat and expanded on site to a nominal size of 2.59 m x 6.5 m, covering approximately 16.8 m² per panel. Depth options of 75 mm, 100 mm, 150 mm and 200 mm allow the system to be matched to loading conditions and required stabilised layer thickness.

TechCell should be installed over a suitable non woven geotextile membrane to provide separation from the sub grade and prevent loss of fines into the infill. On slopes or weak ground, panels must be adequately pinned to maintain alignment during infill. Aggregate selection and compaction are critical to performance.

Limitations should be noted. TechCell is not a surface finish and must always be fully infilled. It is not intended as a replacement for structural pavement design where extreme loads are present without engineering input.

Key Features

  • Cellular confinement improves bearing capacity on weak ground
  • Reduces aggregate movement and long term settlement
  • Suitable for trafficked areas, slopes and basal reinforcement
  • Perforated HDPE cells allow drainage through the structure
  • Multiple depths to suit loading and build up requirements
  • Large panel size for efficient coverage on site

Material Composition

TechCell panels are manufactured from virgin high density polyethylene with textured and perforated strips. The material provides high chemical resistance, durability in buried conditions and strong weld performance between cells.

Cellular Confinement

About this collection

Cellular Confinement

Cellular confinement systems stabilise weak ground by confining infill material within a structured grid. They improve load distribution and reduce ground movement.

Is TechCell suitable for weak or clay sub grades?

Yes. It is commonly used to stabilise weak soils by confining aggregate and spreading loads more effectively.

Which depth should I choose?

75 mm and 100 mm suit pedestrian and light vehicle use.
150 mm and 200 mm are used for heavier loads, slopes or very poor ground.

Does TechCell need a geotextile membrane underneath?

Yes. A non woven geotextile is recommended to provide separation and prevent fines migrating into the infill.

Can TechCell be used on slopes?

Yes, but panels must be securely pinned and correctly infilled to prevent movement during installation.

Is TechCell a finished surface?

No. It must always be fully infilled with aggregate or soil and is not designed to be left exposed.
