Terram T1000 Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane

Terram T1000 Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane

Description

Terram T1000 is a high performance non woven geotextile membrane manufactured from UV stabilised, high tenacity, virgin polypropylene fibres. Unlike gsm rated membranes, Terram geotextiles are engineered to meet defined mechanical and hydraulic performance targets, with fibre content adjusted to deliver consistent strength and durability.

The membrane is mechanically needle punched and thermally bonded, creating a tough, abrasion resistant fabric with excellent resistance to installation damage. Its randomly orientated fibre structure provides fully isotropic strength, meaning performance is consistent in all directions rather than being limited to a single axis.

In the ground, Terram T1000 acts as a separation layer between soil and aggregate while maintaining high permeability. This prevents fine particles migrating into the sub base, helping preserve drainage performance and reduce long term settlement. The controlled pore size supports effective filtration without restricting water flow.

Terram T1000 is commonly used beneath paths, patios, landscaped areas and light duty hardstanding. It is also widely specified as a filtration layer around drainage aggregates in French drains and granular drainage blankets. Where ground conditions are firm and loading is moderate, T1000 provides reliable long term performance without unnecessary over specification.

For vehicle trafficked areas, weak or clay sub grades or higher installation stresses, a higher Terram grade such as T1500 or T2000 should be selected.

Install Terram T1000 on a smooth, prepared sub grade free from sharp protrusions. Overlap adjacent sheets by at least 300mm, increasing where ground conditions are uneven. Cover promptly with aggregate to avoid UV exposure and installation damage.

About this collection

Non Woven Geotextile Membranes

Non woven geotextile membranes are permeable fleece fabrics used for ground separation, filtration and drainage. They allow water to pass through while preventing soil fines migrating into aggregate layers.

Where does Terram T1000 perform best in practice?

T1000 performs best on firm sub grades for paths, patios, landscaped areas and drainage applications where loads are moderate and installation conditions are controlled.

What happens if T1000 is used on softer ground?

On soft or clay sub grades, T1000 may not provide enough resistance to installation stress or long term loading. This can lead to sub base contamination and settlement over time.

When should I step up from T1000 to T1500?

If the ground is variable, vehicle traffic is expected or the cost of failure is high, T1500 is the safer choice.

What makes Terram different from standard gsm based geotextiles?

Terram geotextiles are specified by performance, not weight. Fibre content is adjusted to meet defined strength, elongation and filtration properties, giving more predictable behaviour in real ground conditions than gsm rated membranes.

How long will a Terram geotextile last once installed?

When installed correctly and covered promptly, Terram geotextiles are designed for permanent underground use and are predicted to perform for over 25 years in normal soil conditions.
