Terram T1500 Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane

Terram T1500 Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane

Description

Terram T1500 is a high performance non woven geotextile membrane manufactured from UV stabilised, high tenacity, virgin polypropylene fibres. As part of the Terram standard range, it is engineered to meet defined mechanical and hydraulic performance properties rather than being specified purely by weight.

The membrane is mechanically needle punched and thermally bonded, producing a tough, abrasion resistant fabric with high resistance to installation damage. Its randomly orientated fibre structure provides fully isotropic strength, ensuring consistent performance in all directions and reducing the risk of tearing or localised failure during construction.

In the ground, Terram T1500 provides effective separation between soil and aggregate while maintaining controlled permeability. This prevents fines migrating into the sub base, helping retain bearing capacity and drainage performance over time. The low pore size supports reliable filtration without restricting water flow.

Terram T1500 is commonly specified where lighter membranes are at risk of damage or long term performance issues. Typical applications include domestic driveways, access roads, car parks, hardstanding and construction over soft or clay sub grades. It is also used as a filtration layer around granular drainage blankets and French drains where ground conditions are less predictable.

This grade is well suited to situations where construction traffic, angular aggregate or variable ground conditions place higher stress on the membrane during installation. For heavier commercial loading or high risk protection applications, a higher Terram grade should be considered.

Install Terram T1500 on a prepared sub grade free from sharp protrusions. Overlap adjacent rolls by a minimum of 300mm, increasing where the ground is uneven or soft. Cover promptly with aggregate to limit UV exposure and reduce the risk of installation damage.

About this collection

Non Woven Geotextile Membranes

Non woven geotextile membranes are permeable fleece fabrics used for ground separation, filtration and drainage. They allow water to pass through while preventing soil fines migrating into aggregate layers.

Why is Terram T1500 often specified for driveways?

T1500 offers a strong balance of tensile strength and elongation, allowing it to flex under load while resisting puncture during installation and service.

How does T1500 help on clay or soft sub grades?

It separates the clay from the aggregate layer, reducing pumping of fines into the stone and helping maintain bearing strength over time.

What mistakes still cause problems with T1500?

Insufficient overlap and aggressive placement of angular aggregate. Even performance grade membranes rely on correct installation.

What makes Terram different from standard gsm based geotextiles?

Terram geotextiles are specified by performance, not weight. Fibre content is adjusted to meet defined strength, elongation and filtration properties, giving more predictable behaviour in real ground conditions than gsm rated membranes.

How long will a Terram geotextile last once installed?

When installed correctly and covered promptly, Terram geotextiles are designed for permanent underground use and are predicted to perform for over 25 years in normal soil conditions.
