TNW1000 White Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane 80gsm

TNW1000 White Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane 80gsm

Description

This product is a white, non woven, permeable geotextile membrane manufactured from 100 percent polypropylene staple fibres using a needle punched process. At 80gsm, TNW1000 is designed for separation and filtration where ground loads are light and installation conditions are controlled.

In the ground, the membrane allows water to pass freely through the fabric while preventing the upward migration of fines into clean aggregate layers. This helps maintain drainage performance and reduces long term settlement caused by contamination of the sub base. It is commonly used beneath paths, patios and light duty hardstanding, as well as wrapped around drainage aggregates in French drains and soakaway systems.

TNW1000 is suitable for use on firm sub grades where pedestrian traffic or light landscaping loads are expected. It is often specified as a general purpose separator beneath MOT Type 1, gravel or decorative stone, and as a filtration layer around land drains, attenuation crates and granular drainage blankets.

This grade should not be used in heavily trafficked areas such as driveways carrying vehicles, car parks or areas with weak or soft sub grades. In these situations, a heavier non woven membrane should be selected to provide greater puncture resistance and installation durability.

Installation is straightforward. Lay the membrane directly onto a prepared, level sub grade. Adjacent sheets should be overlapped by at least 300mm, increasing to 500mm on softer or uneven ground. The membrane should be covered promptly with aggregate to reduce the risk of damage during construction.

Key Features

  • Light duty non woven geotextile for separation and filtration
  • Allows water to drain while retaining soil particles
  • Suitable for landscaping, drainage and soakaway applications
  • Flexible and easy to cut and handle on site
  • Helps prevent sub base contamination and loss of fines
  • Supplied in a full width roll for efficient coverage

Material Composition

Manufactured from UV stabilised polypropylene staple fibres using a needle punched process. This construction provides permeability, flexibility and resistance to installation damage in light duty groundworks.

About this collection

Non Woven Geotextile Membranes

Non woven geotextile membranes are permeable fleece fabrics used for ground separation, filtration and drainage. They allow water to pass through while preventing soil fines migrating into aggregate layers.

Where does TNW1000 perform well and where does it fail?

TNW1000 performs well in light duty landscaping and drainage applications on firm ground. It fails when used under vehicle loads or where sharp aggregate and weak sub grades are present.

Why do lighter membranes tear during installation?

Most failures happen before the project is finished. Walking plant, angular stone and poor overlap can damage lighter membranes if they’re pushed beyond their intended use.

When should I step up from TNW1000 to a heavier grade?

If the area will ever carry vehicles or if the ground is soft or clay based, a heavier membrane should be used from the start.

What does a TNW non woven membrane actually do in the ground?

It separates soil from aggregate while still allowing water to drain. This stops fine material being pumped up into the stone layer, which is one of the main causes of settlement and loss of drainage over time.

How long will a TNW membrane last once buried?

When installed correctly and covered promptly, TNW membranes are designed for permanent underground use and will perform for the full service life of the build.
