TNW1500 White Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane 160gsm

TNW1500 White Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane 160gsm

Description

This product is a white, non woven, permeable geotextile membrane manufactured from UV stabilised polypropylene staple fibres using a needle punched process. At 160gsm, TNW1500 offers a significant increase in tensile strength and puncture resistance compared to lighter grades, making it suitable for more demanding groundworks and trafficked applications.

In use, the membrane allows water to pass freely through the fabric while preventing fine soils from migrating into clean aggregate layers. This separation function helps maintain drainage performance, reduces sub base contamination and limits long term settlement caused by fines pumping into the stone layer.

TNW1500 is commonly specified beneath domestic driveways, access roads, hardstanding and light commercial areas where vehicle traffic is expected. It is also used as a robust filtration layer in French drains, soakaways and granular drainage blankets, particularly where ground conditions are variable or installation stresses are higher.

This grade is well suited to sub grades with moderate bearing capacity where lighter membranes may be at risk of damage during construction. It provides a reliable balance of flexibility and strength, allowing it to accommodate stress and strain during aggregate placement while resisting puncture.

Installation should be carried out on a prepared sub grade free from sharp objects. Overlap adjacent sheets by a minimum of 300mm, increasing to 500mm on soft or uneven ground. Cover the membrane promptly with aggregate to protect it during construction.

Key Features

  • Medium to heavy duty non woven geotextile for separation and filtration
  • Higher tensile strength for trafficked and load bearing areas
  • Resists puncture during installation and aggregate placement
  • Allows water flow while retaining soil and fine particles
  • Suitable for driveways, access roads and drainage systems
  • Supplied in a full width roll for efficient site coverage

Material Composition

Manufactured from UV stabilised polypropylene staple fibres using a needle punched construction. This produces a permeable, flexible membrane with increased mechanical strength for more demanding ground conditions.

Non Woven Geotextile Membranes

About this collection

Non Woven Geotextile Membranes

Non woven geotextile membranes are permeable fleece fabrics used for ground separation, filtration and drainage. They allow water to pass through while preventing soil fines migrating into aggregate layers.

Why is 160gsm such a common driveway specification?

It provides a strong balance between flexibility and puncture resistance, making it suitable for domestic driveways and access roads without over-engineering the build.

How does TNW1500 behave on clay sub grades?

It performs well by separating the clay from the aggregate layer and reducing pumping of fines, which is a common cause of driveway failure.

What mistakes still cause problems at this grade?

Insufficient overlap and placing aggregate too aggressively. Even heavier membranes can be damaged by poor installation practice.

What does a TNW non woven membrane actually do in the ground?

It separates soil from aggregate while still allowing water to drain. This stops fine material being pumped up into the stone layer, which is one of the main causes of settlement and loss of drainage over time.

How long will a TNW membrane last once buried?

When installed correctly and covered promptly, TNW membranes are designed for permanent underground use and will perform for the full service life of the build.
