Fastrack G90 Black Woven Geotextile Membrane 78gsm

Fastrack G90 Black Woven Geotextile Membrane 78gsm

Description

Fastrack G90 is a woven polypropylene geotextile membrane manufactured for stabilisation and reinforcement within the ground. Unlike non woven membranes, woven fabrics focus on tensile strength and load distribution rather than fine filtration, making G90 suitable where ground movement, trafficking or erosion control is the primary concern.

In the ground, Fastrack G90 works by spreading imposed loads over a wider area, reducing rutting and settlement on weak or variable sub grades. It also provides basic separation between sub grade and aggregate, helping to maintain the integrity of MOT Type 1 or similar materials over time. The woven structure allows water to pass through while limiting soil migration, although it should not be relied on for fine filtration in silty or clay soils.

Typical uses include driveways and patios on softer ground, road construction, hard standing areas, car parks, artificial sports surfaces and erosion control applications. It is also widely used as a base layer within equestrian arenas and paddocks, where stabilisation beneath the stone layer is required. Woven membranes should never be used as a top layer in riding arenas.

At 78gsm, G90 is a light to medium duty woven membrane intended for general ground reinforcement rather than heavy civil loading. For poor ground conditions, high traffic areas or where drainage performance is critical, a non woven geotextile may be required in conjunction with, or instead of, a woven fabric.

Installation is straightforward. Lay the membrane directly over the prepared sub grade, overlap joints by 300 to 500mm and avoid stretching the fabric. Place aggregate carefully to avoid displacement. Fastrack G90 is compatible with EcoGrid and other ground reinforcement systems when used as a stabilising layer beneath.

Key Features

  • Woven geotextile for stabilisation and reinforcement
  • Helps reduce ground movement and rutting
  • Effective weed suppression when buried
  • Suitable for driveways, patios and hard standings
  • Commonly used in equestrian arena base layers
  • Supplied in full rolls and practical cut sizes

Material Composition

Fastrack G90 is manufactured from woven polypropylene tapes. This construction provides high tensile strength and low elongation, allowing loads to be distributed efficiently across the sub grade while maintaining long term durability in buried conditions.

Is Fastrack G90 suitable for driveways and patios?

Yes. Fastrack G90 is well suited to domestic driveways, patios and paths where ground stabilisation is required beneath the sub base. It helps spread loads and reduces movement of the aggregate. On weak, clay or silty ground, a non woven membrane may still be required for filtration.

Can Fastrack G90 be used in equestrian arenas & paddocks?

Yes. G90 is commonly used as a base layer beneath the stone in equestrian arenas and turnout areas to improve stability and reduce mixing with the sub grade. It must always be buried and should never be used as a top layer where horses could make direct contact.

Is Fastrack G90 suitable for weed control applications?

It is effective for weed suppression when installed below gravel, paving or hard landscaping. The black woven structure blocks light and limits growth. It is not intended for use as an exposed surface and should always be covered to prevent UV exposure and damage.

Woven or non woven geotextile, what’s the difference?

Woven geotextile membranes are designed primarily for stabilisation and reinforcement. They offer high tensile strength and help spread loads over weak ground. Non woven membranes focus on filtration and separation, allowing water to pass through while retaining fine particles. The correct choice depends on ground conditions and the role the membrane needs to perform.

Can a woven geotextile be used on its own?

It depends on the application and soil type. Woven membranes work well on firm or granular sub grades where stabilisation is the priority. On clay, silt or very fine soils, a non woven membrane may be required to provide filtration, either instead of or in addition to a woven fabric.
