Galfan Coated Welded Mesh Gabion Basket 1m x 1m x 1m

This 1m x 1m x 1m gabion basket is manufactured from welded steel mesh using 3mm Galfan coated wire. Galfan is a zinc aluminium alloy coating, typically 95 percent zinc and 5 percent aluminium, offering significantly improved corrosion resistance compared to standard galvanised wire. This results in a much longer working life in ground contact, exposed and wet environments.

Once filled with angular stone, the basket functions as a mass retaining system. Stability is achieved through weight rather than fixings or concrete foundations. For most applications, the basket only requires a firm, level and well compacted base that will not settle under load. This makes gabions suitable for sites where traditional retaining structures would be costly or impractical.

The 1m cube size is commonly used for retaining walls, riverbanks, canals, embankments and erosion control schemes. It is also used in landscaping and commercial settings where higher retained loads are expected. The permeable nature of gabions allows water to pass freely through the structure, reducing hydrostatic pressure and lowering the risk of water build up behind the wall.

Baskets are supplied flat packed and assembled on site using stainless steel C clips, with Galfan lacing wire included. Installation time can be reduced by using helicoil connectors as an optional extra. For stacked walls or retained soil, baskets should be tied together, braced internally during filling and leaned back slightly to improve long term stability.

In fine or silty ground conditions, a non woven geotextile membrane should be installed behind the gabion wall to prevent soil fines washing through the stone fill.

This basket is not intended to support buildings or structural foundations. Taller walls or trafficked surcharge loads may require stepped layouts or engineering input.
