Fine Mesh Metals

Fine Mesh Metals supply welded wire mesh products used for structural reinforcement and ground construction projects.

Reinforcement mesh is installed within concrete or bound layers to control cracking and improve load distribution. In driveway bases, shed slabs and hard standings, steel mesh helps resist tensile forces that develop as concrete cures and is loaded. This reduces the risk of shrinkage cracking and long term surface failure.

On larger commercial builds, mesh panels are specified within structural slabs, foundations and industrial floors. Correct positioning within the concrete depth is essential to achieve performance. It should sit within the upper third of the slab for crack control unless structural design states otherwise.

Fine Mesh Metals products are also used alongside ground reinforcement systems. For example, where a sub base is stabilised with geogrid or cellular confinement, steel mesh may still be required within the finished concrete surface layer.

Mesh selection depends on bar diameter, aperture size and loading requirements. Light domestic slabs typically require lighter gauge mesh, while trafficked or structural areas need heavier sections.

Steel reinforcement mesh is not a substitute for proper sub base preparation. Weak or clay sub grades still require suitable excavation, geotextile separation and compacted aggregate before concrete is poured.

Choosing the correct mesh grade and placing it correctly within the slab is key to long term durability.
