HPS5 Heavy Duty Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane

HPS5 Heavy Duty Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane

Description

HPS5 is a heavy duty needle-punched non woven geotextile membrane manufactured from 100% virgin polypropylene high tenacity fibres, incorporating 1% active carbon black for long term UV stability. It is engineered for applications where standard geotextiles are at risk of puncture, abrasion or long term degradation.

This membrane is optimised for performance rather than mass. Its thickness, elongation and puncture resistance allow it to absorb high localised loads without tearing, making it suitable for direct placement beneath rock armour and other aggressive materials. The high elongation enables the fabric to deform under point loading while maintaining filtration and hydraulic performance.

In service, HPS5 provides effective soil filtration and separation while allowing controlled water flow. The carefully controlled pore size prevents soil migration while maintaining permeability, even under sustained load. Its in-plane drainage capacity helps dissipate pore water pressure beneath armour layers and heavy fills.

HPS5 is commonly specified in landfill cells and capping systems to protect geomembranes, in coastal and river defence works beneath rock armour, and in heavy civil engineering projects where failure would be costly or hazardous. It is also used in erosion control schemes where traditional granular filter layers would be impractical or uneconomical.

This product is not intended for domestic landscaping or standard drainage applications. It is a specialist geotextile for engineered systems operating under extreme mechanical and environmental stress.

Install HPS5 in accordance with project specifications. Due to the nature of its applications, overlap requirements and anchoring details should be confirmed by the project engineer. The membrane should be protected from prolonged UV exposure prior to burial.

What type of projects require HPS5 instead of standard geotextiles?

HPS5 is used where extreme loading, abrasion or puncture risk exists, such as beneath rock armour, in landfill cells or major erosion control works.

Can HPS5 be placed directly under rock armour?

Yes. It is specifically designed to withstand direct placement of rock armour without an intermediate granular filter layer, subject to design requirements.

Is HPS5 suitable for coastal or marine environments?

Yes. It is commonly used in coastal and river defence schemes due to its resistance to abrasion, high elongation and chemical stability.

What does a non-woven geotextile actually do in the ground?

A non-woven geotextile separates soil from aggregate while still allowing water to drain. This prevents fine material from contaminating the sub-base, which is a common cause of settlement and drainage failure over time.

Is this membrane suitable for permanent underground use?

Yes. When installed correctly and covered promptly, TCS non-woven geotextiles are designed for long-term buried applications and will perform for the life of the structure.
