HPS8 Heavy Duty Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane

HPS8 Heavy Duty Non-Woven Geotextile Membrane

Description

HPS8 is a very high performance needle-punched non woven geotextile membrane manufactured from 100% virgin polypropylene high tenacity fibres, incorporating 1% active carbon black for long term UV stability. It is engineered for situations where even heavy duty geotextiles may be at risk of puncture, abrasion or long term degradation.

This membrane is optimised for strength and protection rather than mass alone. Its high tensile strength, extreme puncture resistance and high elongation allow it to absorb concentrated loads without tearing, making it suitable for direct placement beneath rock armour and other aggressive fills.

In service, HPS8 provides reliable soil filtration and separation while maintaining controlled water flow. The carefully controlled pore size prevents soil migration under high hydraulic pressure, while its in-plane drainage capacity helps relieve pore water pressure beneath heavy armour layers.

HPS8 is commonly specified in coastal and river defence schemes, landfill cell construction and capping systems, and major civil engineering projects where long term stability and protection of underlying systems is critical. It is also used in erosion control works where granular filter layers would be impractical or uneconomic.

This membrane is not intended for domestic or commercial landscaping. It is a specialist geotextile for engineered environments operating under extreme mechanical, hydraulic and environmental stress.

Installation should follow project specifications. Due to the nature of its applications, overlap, anchoring and placement details should be determined by the design engineer. The membrane should be protected from prolonged UV exposure prior to burial.

When is HPS8 required instead of HPS5?

HPS8 is specified where loading, abrasion or puncture risk is significantly higher, such as under large rock armour or in high energy coastal environments.

Can HPS8 be used directly beneath rock armour?

Yes. HPS8 is designed for direct placement beneath rock armour, subject to project design requirements.

Is HPS8 suitable for coastal and marine environments?

Yes. It is commonly used in coastal, river and erosion control schemes due to its strength, abrasion resistance and chemical stability.

What does a non-woven geotextile actually do in the ground?

A non-woven geotextile separates soil from aggregate while still allowing water to drain. This prevents fine material from contaminating the sub-base, which is a common cause of settlement and drainage failure over time.

Is this membrane suitable for permanent underground use?

Yes. When installed correctly and covered promptly, TCS non-woven geotextiles are designed for long-term buried applications and will perform for the life of the structure.
